The UK general election 2017
The British government have called a general election to decide on a new government, there are many reasons why they could have called a general election. Firstly, the Prime Minister wants to be elected by the general population rather than just the party voting them in, this would solidify the government’s power and it would show that the population does want them to lead the country and the Brexit negotiations. Secondly if they win an even bigger majority this would unite the government more and strengthen the government in the Brexit negotiations and passing more laws. Lastly, some have claimed that it has been called, to stop any party infighting that may occur but this is unconfirmed.
The coming British election, 8th June, will decide the next government. The main two parties in the election is the Conservative party and the Labour party, the conservatives are currently in power and are expected to win more seats come 8th June. Maybe they won’t have a majority, but that looks highly unlikely due to the competition, which is the Labour party who is the only other major party. The Labour party has infighting within the party which doesn’t help their chances, their party is not united on their stance in politics. I feel that the leader in the labour party is too left for the Labour party and the population. I’m not saying that their policies are wrong or bad but they need a way to market their ideas where the wider population will understand and like their policies. A problem with a lot of politicians is that they have no depth in their policies or what they stand for, they don’t explain what or why they want more clearly. The next and biggest problem is that people don’t want to listen, they get bored and they end up not learning about the polices politicians are putting forward. Generally, people will follow and like one party and they will stick with it, they won’t read up on other political parties to see what they really stand for or what they really offer to the population.
The biggest hope to stop the Conservative party winning another term is for the minor parties to work together and source all their MPs to make a coalition government but the minor parties won’t have a chance the Green Party will likely only get one MP, the Liberal democrats will get no more than 15 MPs and the Scottish National Party will get about 50 MPs so overall they will not have much of a chance of beating the conservatives.
Overall I feel that the Conservative Party will win another term. It is not who I support but I feel that they will win. Because the majority of people that I have spoken to will vote Conservative, and betting companies are heavily favouring the Conservatives.
I will talk more about the different parties and why I think they are good or bad and what they could do to improve.
